TERRY HIGGINS

CHAIRMAN

I continue to enjoy the growth of the company and the professionalism of its employees.

Terry Higgins, Chairman

Intro:

I started TJ Transport Ltd with the full support of my wife and young family.

To now be Chairman of a Group of companies that employs over 230 people, has a turnover in excess of £35million, and operates from Avonmouth through to Shoreham creates a role that I now embrace. I continue to enjoy the growth of the company and of the professionalism of its employees.

After 27+ years I still have the enthusiasm to be part of this industry, and to continue to see TJ Group prosper in a safe, environmentally aware manner, whilst now welcoming many of my original workforce’s children into full-time employment with TJ.

TERRY’s Bio:

job title:

Chairman

Background:

I attended Purbrook Park Grammar School and following my “O” levels I left at 16 to go to work within the Transport and Freight Forwarding industries locally. Further qualifications were gained as Industry Specific such as the Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Haulage operations.

My early years were spent working in various locations in the UK – mainly at various ports such as Southampton, Tilbury, London Docks, Liverpool and Felixstowe overseeing various Transport and logistic operations on Specialised Container Haulage and Abnormal Loads.

Upon returning to Portsmouth I joined HT Hughes and Sons Ltd as Transport Manager overseeing all aspects of Transport surrounding Quarried Products, Construction and Waste activities. After becoming a Director at HT Hughes – the company was sold to Leigh Environmental ( latterly becoming Veolia) and I was responsible for selling many of the assets and associated transport activities to a third party locally.

OUTSIDE OF WORK:

My leisure time is predominantly sport based still. Either playing golf and swimming, or possibly getting more enjoyment from watching and supporting both of my children and the four grandchildren across a range of sports including Rugby, Cricket Football and swimming.
