TJ Group hosted a cake sale in support of Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on 29 September, raising over £165 for this worthy cause.
The event, which took place at TJ’s HQ at Charity Farm, Fareham, saw staff members donating sweet and savoury treats for sale. There were homemade raspberry and white chocolate muffins, a lemon drizzle cake, and bacon and cheese twists. The rest of the donations were shop bought but also enjoyed!
TJ staff members Elaine Stenning, Barbara Goode and Alena Cayford organised the event. There was also a ‘guess how many chocolates are in the tin’ competition, with the winning guess of 67 coming from TJ’s Fleet Manager and Driver CPC Trainer, Lee Downer.
Macmillan Cancer Support provides services for people living with cancer at every stage of their cancer experience, including emotional, practical, physical and financial support. They also raise money, influence decision makers, support the cancer workforce, research cancer care and help employers support staff. Each year, Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning raises millions of pounds to support the great work they do. We took part in the coffee morning and donated September’s dress down funds to this amazing cause.
TJ gets involved in a range of fundraising activities throughout the year including monthly ‘dress down days’, whereby staff pay a £2.50 donation to wear casual clothes for the day. The funds raised are donated to several different charities over the year.
This year money has been raised for the Alzheimer’s Society, Wessex Cancer Support, Outward Bound Trust and Guide Dogs, with next month’s proceeds going to Jeans for Genes.
The Alzheimer’s Society is working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. They do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future. They are the UK’s largest collective force of people with unparalleled knowledge and over 40 years of experience addressing the biggest challenges facing people living with dementia.
Wessex Cancer Support envisions a future where everyone in the Wessex area has access to personalised support that empowers them to live well with and beyond cancer. They engage with local communities to help improve the emotional health and well-being of anyone affected by cancer.
Outward Bound’s mission is to inspire young people to believe they can achieve more than they ever thought possible. They partner with schools, colleges, employers and youth groups to teach the most important lesson they could ever learn: to believe in themselves.
Guide Dogs are led by the needs of their customers and deliver services and support tailored to their specific needs.Their ambition is a future where every person with sight loss has the confidence and support they need to live their lives to the full.
Jeans for Genes is an organisation that supports children and families living with genetic disorders. TJ donates their October dress down proceeds to the charity every year.
TJ supports a number of charities in other ways too, such as making monetary donations or donating their skip hire services to help with projects. This year alone TJ has donated hampers to homeless shelters in Portsmouth, donated a skip to Heartbeat House for a clearout, and donated skips to a number of projects that the Rose Road Association have undertaken.
In April, TJ Transport’s Commercial Manager Paul Smith ran the TCS London Marathon 2023 to raise money for the Rainbow Centre. He successfully completed the run in just 3 hours 12 minutes, finishing in the top 10%. The Rainbow Centre, which is based in Fareham, was created by a small group of parents looking to provide the best help and support they could for their children with Cerebral Palsy.
Last month a team from TJ Waste took on the Test Way, walking up to 25.5 miles each in support of the amazing Rose Road Association. TJ has worked in partnership with Rose Road since 2013 and over the past 10 years, we’ve donated our services and fundraised to contribute to the crucial and tireless work the charity does.
