TJ has maintained their FORS Silver accreditation for the sixth consecutive year, confirming their status as one of the leading SME transport companies in the southern region.
There are three levels of FORS accreditation – Bronze, Silver and Gold. Bronze is the basic level, which ensures that as an operating company, you’re compliant and safe to be on the road. To gain Bronze status, an auditor will come in and perform an audit on your systems to check you’re adhering to the basic standards.
To step up to Silver status you are required to prove a number of other factors to show that you’re operating at a higher level and going the extra mile. This was the route we took and it meant us undergoing a further audit and submitting evidence that we are:
FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) states that: “Silver accreditation confirms that you employ good practice and comply with the requirements laid out by the FORS Standard. By achieving FORS Silver accreditation your fleet will be compliant with the CLOCS Standard for Construction Logistics and with TfL’s WRRR (Work Related Road Risk).”
TJ’s Fleet Engineer Dave Millington was instrumental in securing this year’s accreditation. He said: “Our Silver status means that we have to undergo a new audit annually to maintain that, as well as a Bronze audit every two years to check we’re doing everything we should be. FORS wants to know what we’ll be doing over the coming year to maintain the standard, so we submit reports that include a communication plan for the year, what training we’ll be doing and an overview of the procedures we’ll be following throughout the year.”
Holding FORS Silver allows us to tender for jobs with larger companies such as Cemex and Tarmac. These companies are FORS Gold accredited and as such are only able to work in partnership with Gold or Silver status companies in order to comply with their own status.
We work in partnership with both Cemex and Tarmac, who utilise our haulage services in the southern region and beyond. We secured a multimillion pound, five-year contract with Tarmac in 2020, which sees us undertaking all of Tarmac’s haulage work in the areas between Brighton and Bournemouth, equating to hundreds of thousands of tonnes of aggregates per annum.
We started working with Cemex in 2021, delivering haulage services on their behalf for the HS2 project. This contract is a five-year agreement between ourselves and Cemex to supply between 3 and 6 tipping artic lorries a day, running circa 1250-1500 tonnes of sand and graded stone per week to three different sites along the HS2 network.
We’re committed to managing work related road risk (WRRR), particularly regarding vulnerable road users such as cyclists. In 2016 we created our Cycle Safe Campaign to raise awareness of the issue and to reduce the HGV / cyclist dangers. The initiatives implemented as part of the campaign are:
