Supporting Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning

TJ Group hosted a cake sale in support of Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on 27 September, raising over £150 for this worthy cause. The event was organised by team members Elaine Stenning, Barbara Goode and Alena Cayford.

The event, which took place at TJ’s HQ at Charity Farm, Fareham, saw staff members donating sweet and savoury treats for sale. The offerings included delicious homemade coffee cake, lemon drizzle cake, chocolate brownies and cheese and bacon twists, as well as some lovely shop-bought cakes too.

Macmillan Cancer Support provides services for people living with cancer at every stage of their cancer experience, including emotional, practical, physical and financial support. They also raise money, influence decision makers, support the cancer workforce, research cancer care and help employers support staff. Each year, Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning raises millions of pounds to support the great work they do.

TJ gets involved in a range of fundraising activities throughout the year including monthly ‘dress down days’, whereby staff pay a £2.50 donation to wear casual clothes for the day. The funds raised are donated to several different charities over the year.

TJ supports a number of charities in other ways too, such as making monetary or other donations or donating their skip hire services to help with projects. In the past 12 months TJ has made a number of donations including:

Donating hampers to SCC’s Annual Toy Appeal: TJ donated six of their Christmas hampers to Southampton City Council’s (SCC) Annual Toy Appeal 2023, demonstrating their ongoing desire to give a little something back to the local community. 2023 was the 35th Annual Toy Appeal, and communities, community organisations, local businesses and charities are invited to donate new toys and gifts to help spread festive cheer to vulnerable children and young people during the festive period.

Skip donation to Northam Community Centre: TJ Waste donated a skip to a local community centre to assist them with a clearance project they were undertaking to free up space and get the centre back in good order. Northam Community Centre in Southampton, which is run by local charity Northam Community Link, is a community hub of services that are utilised by many in the local area.

Skip donation to Rowans Hospice: TJ Waste donated a skip to Rowans Hospice recently, enabling them to finish clearing the premises following refurbishments. When the Rowans team got in touch, we were very happy to help and delivered the 8 yard skip to the Hospice the very next day! Rowans Hospice, which is located in Purbrook, Hampshire, provides palliative and end of life care to the highest quality for those living with a life-limiting illness in the Southeast of Hampshire.

Providing sponsorship for 3 Peaks Challenge: TJ Driver and Army Veteran Andy Weir took part in the 3 Peak Challenge in March, completing the gruelling challenge in 23 hours 50 minutes! He took part to help raise money for AMBUSH Veteran Adventures, a Community Interest Company that provides adventurous and woodland management training to serving and veteran personnel of the British armed forces and blue light services. TJ Waste signed up to sponsor the event, providing valuable funds towards this great cause.

Continuing to support Solent Mind: TJ Waste donated a 12 yard skip to Southampton-based charity, Mayfield Nurseries, to capture all the waste generated at a volunteer day they hosted recently. The day was a great success with 16 volunteers attending to help. The charity is part of Solent Mind, the Hampshire-based mental health charity.  All the money raised by the garden centre sales is ploughed back into helping people with mental health issues.

Supporting Charity Golf Day: TJ Waste supported a Charity Golf Day organised by Mountjoy to raise money for local charity Motiv8, who provide a range of support to young people in the community. Four of TJ’s senior management team attended the golf day in August at Waterlooville Golf Club, making a monetary donation to take part. The day was a great success with over £6,500 being raised for Motiv8.
