TJ has recently created a new apprenticeship opportunity within the company in a bid to provide jobs for young people at a time when unemployment is high, as well as expand their team.
We welcomed an apprentice into our Waste division into the role of Business Operations Assistant last month. This role has been created to support the current operations team, with a view for the role to develop in line with the apprentice’s strengths and preferences.
Over the years, we have supported several apprenticeship positions within the company. Apprenticeships are a great way of taking on new staff in a cost-effective way, ensuring that they receive the correct formal training which will look great on their CVs, as well as specific, specialised training for the role they’ve been employed to do.
TJ is a great place to work; we’re keen advocates for the personal development and progression of our employees. Further opportunities for professional courses, such as leadership and management qualifications, and progression onto more senior roles is often possible.
This advanced apprenticeship is expected to take around 15 months to complete, with the academic side being delivered by Havant and South Downs College. The apprentice will spend one day a week off-site in a college training environment with the rest of their time being spent in the workplace, learning on the job.
Our friendly and experienced team will provide guidance, support and assistance to the apprentices, and their line manager will also support and monitor them to ensure they are happy and comfortable in the role and receiving help as and when needed.
Over the past 15 months, the Government has invested heavily in apprenticeships, with the introduction and subsequent extension of the Government apprenticeship incentive scheme, which gives employers a bonus payment of up to £4,000 to cover the costs of the apprenticeship.
Combine this with the Apprenticeship Levy (or Co-funded models for smaller businesses) and it means that 95-100% of apprenticeship training is funded, giving companies a viable low or no-cost employment and training option.
This is allowing businesses to take on new staff at a time when the UK economy is recovering from huge setbacks caused by the pandemic and Brexit, both of which have affected businesses greatly.
