Here at TJ, we know what’s important. We prioritise our staff, our customers and our duty to the environment to ensure we’re doing our absolute best by everyone. In return, we’d like to ask you to support us in doing all these things – support TJ, so we can keep supporting our communities and partners!
We’re a big local employer, providing jobs to around 230 people in the southern region as well as providing regular work for a large number of subcontractors as well. We work in partnership with many other businesses and organisations in the south as well as nationwide, supporting the work they do and helping to make it all possible.
When it comes to waste management and haulage companies in the southern region, there are many to choose from, but we’re here to tell you that TJ is the best choice – and here’s why…
Exceptional customer service
Ensuring a high level of customer service is one of our core values and has always been a top priority for us. We believe that delivering a first-class service to each and every customer is the reason our reputation for excellence precedes us. We were recently awarded the FEEFO Platinum Trusted Service award – which recognises businesses for delivering exceptional experiences, as rated by real customers – for the fourth year running, which speaks for itself!
Looking after our staff
We recognise that our dedicated and hard working staff are what make us the successful company we are! We truly value our employees and treat each and every one as an individual, rather than just a number. We do all we can to ensure that our staff are welcomed and fully inducted when they join, and then supported throughout their time with us.
This includes ensuring that they are happy and confident in their roles, supported in their wellbeing and given opportunities to develop and learn new skills. We provide a range of training, from an annual health and safety induction for all employees., to any specialised training that is deemed necessary by us or requested by the staff member. We’ll always support every employee’s continuing professional development journey as part of our commitment to help them fulfil their potential.
Doing our bit for the environment
It is our intention to reduce our carbon footprint by signing up to a carbon credit scheme to offset our usage. It is likely that we will enter into a commitment to plant a tree for every skip / 100 tonnes of aggregate we sell.
Diverting waste from landfill
One of our core missions is to divert as much waste as possible from landfill. TJ Waste continually seeks out new routes for waste disposal, whether that’s innovative avenues for recycling, new processes or other options for Energy from Waste. TJ Transport always endeavours to repurpose and reuse as many unwanted materials as possible including inert soil, contaminated materials (which are treated and reused) and rubble, which is utilised in the production of our recycled aggregate, iBlend.
Using technology to decrease our carbon footprint
Our customised IT system, Fissara Move, can be utilised on the move, via Samsung Galaxy tablet devices, which has improved communication between our drivers and office staff. This improved two-way communication has enabled us to lower our carbon emissions as office staff are able to route our drivers more accurately, resulting in fewer wasted miles.
Efficient fleet
Our entire fleet is on a rolling renewal scheme, which means our vehicles are always modern and well-maintained. It’s a fact that newer vehicles are more efficient and produce lower emissions; this is something that we take seriously and that we’re very mindful of.
Electric cars
We’ve launched an initiative to provide electric company cars for key members of staff in a bid to ensure internal travel is being done in the most eco-friendly way possible. So far we have equipped three employees with cars; these staff members are in roles that require them to travel between sites as well as visiting clients during the working day. By cutting out fossil fuels for regular travel, we hope to significantly reduce our company carbon footprint.
Responsible waste management
We’re responsible in all we do. We ensure that the skips, grabs and vehicles that we use to provide our services are safe and well-maintained. All waste that we handle is always directed down the most appropriate route for its type to ensure it ends up in the best possible place. We provide Waste Transfer Notes so that there’s a record of where we have directed each load of waste, which ensures complete transparency.
We are dedicated to diverting as much waste as possible from landfill so we endeavour to repurpose, recycle and reuse as much as we can. We recycle up to 100% of the waste that we handle and anything that falls outside of that is directed down the Energy from Waste (EfW) route.
We process all materials in line with WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) protocol. WRAP’s mission is to accelerate the move to a sustainable, resource-efficient economy by re-inventing how we design, produce and sell products, re-thinking how we use and consume products, and re-defining what is possible through reuse and recycling.
We also specialise in disposing of hazardous items – many of which are traditionally tricky to dispose of – such as POPs, mattresses, fridge freezers, WEEE, asbestos, hazardous liquids and contaminated soil.
Supporting the local community
We support our local communities in many ways. This includes assisting in local community projects, donating our time, products and services to good causes, providing sponsorship to local events and sports clubs and fundraising for charities.
Here are some of the ways that we’ve provided support in recent years:
- We’ve donated rock chalk to Butser Ancient Farm several times over the years, for use during visits from local schools to aid childrens’ learning.
- We donated 40 tonnes of rock chalk to Queen Elizabeth Country Park to enable the construction of a new bike trail.
- We’ve sponsored the Portsmouth Coastal Waterside Marathon for the past five years, providing overall support for the event as well as supplying much-needed waste management services free of charge.
- Last summer we provided sponsorship to the South Downs Show and Yapton Summer Fair.
- We’ve recently donated our skip hire services to a range of charities including Solent Mind, Rose Road Association and Heartbeat House.
- We’ve fundraised for a range of charities in the past year including MacMillan, Heartbeat and the Big Give Project.
